There is good reason why Trove deserves to be our Game of the Day here at Almost exactly a week ago, the title was finally officially launched. We have been covering the open world RPG since November 2013. When Trion Worlds announced the sandbox MMO, we were quick to judge it as a Minecraft rip-off. While there are certainly influences and a general inspiration from Mojang’s game, Trove has successfully managed to set itself apart from Minecraft, becoming a unique gaming experience. A year after it was announced, the free-to-play game went into its open beta. We constantly reported on the title, as new content was being added and the general direction of its gameplay became more precise.

If there's one thing you have to know about Trove, it's that the open world RPG is exactly that – a roleplaying game. In comparison to Minecraft, there is a bigger focus on an adventurous journey in which you defeat enemies and fight battles with your customized character. The sandbox elements are a major part of the gameplay, but they are more or less secondary to the adventure – without wanting to belittle them.

If you are interested in an expansive gaming world in which you can not only constantly explore new content, but also create content yourself, you should take a look at Trion Worlds’ Trove. Don’t be fooled by the retro visuals, as this is a complex RPG for all types of players.
