Happy New Year! 2015 is history, so there’s no need to think about the tops and the flops of the last 12 months anymore. Let’s focus on the future now and think about all the wonderful games that are scheduled to come out this year. Keep in mind that there will definitely be many surprising hits that are not even on our radar yet. If there’s one thing that’s certain about the free-to-play gaming industry, it’s that it’s always full of surprises. We have to admit that we had a hard time choosing our top 5, but here’s our selection. Feel free to add your choice in the comments below.
This is probably the online game that we are the most excited for in the next 12 months. Ever since we got to try it out at gamescom 2015, we couldn’t help but anxiously await its release. While the open beta testing and the final release have unfortunately been pushed back, we are awaiting big things from Gigantic (no pun intended). The studio recently revealed that it was thoroughly working on new content to make the MOBA a worthwhile addition to the industry. We are sure that it will be more than worth the wait. Lush graphics, action-packed gameplay, and loads of content await us!
World of Speed
We were actually expecting World of Speed to come out last year, but the development studio Slightly Mad Studios was too busy finishing the production of Project Cars. Finally, the developers are back to working full time on the free-to-play racing game. It is about time, as there really aren’t many free titles left in this genre, which is surprising considering that it’s so optimal for this particular business model. Visually, World of Speed is already more than stunning, and we can only hope that the gameplay will be just as well-rounded.
We couldn’t help but think of Mad Max when we first saw images for Crossout. We can’t say that this made us any less excited for Gaijin Entertainment’s upcoming action game. Players get to build their very own vehicles choosing from all kinds of different parts and materials. We were able to take a peek at the online game at last year’s gamescom, and we have to admit that we thoroughly enjoyed what we saw. Let’s cross our fingers that the studio actually manages to publish the title next year.
Epic Games is definitely a believer of the free-to-play business model. After Unreal Tournament and Fortnite, the studio is now working on Paragon, another free online game in their portfolio. They might have a somewhat more difficult time after they launch their upcoming title, as Paragon is a MOBA with a third-person point of view that features a few trading card game elements. Sounds like quite a lot, not to mention that players are quite well saturated with MOBA games. We hope that the title manages to make a mark, as the stunning Unreal Engine 4 graphics have definitely caught our attention.
How could we not anticipate Albion Online? The MMORPG looks like it will be an amazing addition to the free-to-play industry. It features lush graphics, profound gameplay, and cross-platform compatibility. The business model seems well balanced, allowing players to advance with or without spending any money. We are very much looking forward to the title!
