Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before. While they are not the first free-to-play online game publishers to release their games on consoles, it is still a bold move that should be applauded! The guys and girls over at Perfect World Entertainment have announced that Star Trek Online is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It follows in the footsteps of other free-to-play PC games such as World of Tanks, War Thunder, and Neverwinter.
The console version of the MMORPG will feature all content from the last six years of Star Trek Online on PC. This includes more than 130 episodes that are based on the classic stories and series of the science-fiction franchise. The online game also features the voices of actors such as Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine), Michael Dorn (Worf), Tim Russ (Tuvok), and many more. As though all of this wasn’t enough, console players can look forward to the two expansions and 11 seasons worth of updates.
Cryptic Studios are currently busy updating the game engine to make sure that the game looks as amazing as it can on Microsoft’s and Sony’s home consoles. With their experience in converting Neverwinter for consoles, the guys and girls over at Perfect World and Cryptic Studios have come up with a great way to port the controls to allow for optimized gameplay.
