While a few publishers already announced their upcoming winter and Christmas themed events last weeks, others focused on releasing games before the Christmas season officially begins. Coincidentally, there were quite a few mobile releases of games, be it new releases or simply mobile versions of already existing browser games. Here’s what happened over the course of the last seven days in the world of mobile and online gaming.

Announcements

Futurama: Game of Drones

Futurama: Game of Drones

This announcement provoked very ambiguous reactions in our editorial staff. While we were more than excited that there was going to be a mobile game based on Matt Groening’s television series Futurama, we were a little disenchanted that the app would be a free-to-play puzzle game. Futurama: Game of Drones is being developed by Wooga and will feature an original plot written by Dave Grossman (The Wolf Among Us), Jonathan Myers (Game of Thrones: Ascent), and Patric M. Verrone, who was part of the original Futurama writing team.

Testing Phases

After much anticipation and a long closed alpha phase, Albion Online finally started its closed beta. Players with Founder’s Packs and those who were lucky enough to get an invitation have been able to delve into the sandbox RPG since November 23rd.

Releases

The free-to-play tycoon game Rail Nation has been available in the browser of your choice for quite a while already. Now players can also take their game with them wherever they go. Rail Nation is available for Android and iOS devices, also for free.

The hype surrounding the upcoming Star Wars film has commenced. In this context, it is not surprising that Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes was released in the Google Play Store and on iTunes.

Last but not least, the guys and girls over at Wargaming released a trading card game based on the World of Tanks franchise on iPad and browser. World of Tanks Generals can now be enjoyed by all tank fans for free.
