Phew, what a long title for our Rant & Rave this week. We tried to be as precise as possible, but that’s all we got! If you’re still wondering what this blog is all about, let us quickly explain. Each gamer has something they like and dislike about their favorite hobby. We are no different. Our Rant & Rave is the one time each week, we get to drop all filters and share our true opinion on various topics of the gaming industry. Feel free to join the discussion below!
Rant: Disappointing New Games
I’m not talking about brand new IPs here. Take one of your favorite gaming series – be it Mario, Zelda, or Assassin’s Creed. You got hooked on the franchise because of that one installment in the series that you still hold dear to your heart. Whenever the next new game based on this iconic IP is announced, you can’t help but get super excited – only to be let down by the released game. This could be due to your high expectations, to the laziness of the developers, or a rushed release. It could also be due to the fact that the quality of that one installment of the series that you hold so dear can’t be reached again. I’m looking at you Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart…
Rave: Retro Gaming Nights
This brings me right to my Rave. The international browsergames editorial team recently spent a Friday evening playing Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8 on Wii U. While I thoroughly enjoyed both games, being the Nintendo fan-boy that I am, I couldn’t help but feel like they weren’t as good as the Game Cube installments of both series. This resulted in me calling in a few of my friends and having a retro gaming night where we played racing and party games on the Game Cube. How many of you still dust off your Nintendo 64, Game Cube, or even Super Nintendo to have long retro gaming nights? Hanging out with friends and dwelling on good gaming memories is one of my favorite ways to spend a Friday night.
