Almost two years ago, the upcoming free-to-play tower defense game Orcs Must Die: Unchained went into closed beta. The guys and girls over at Robot Entertainment used the time to add a lot of new content, tweak and balance the gameplay, and work on an additional PlayStation 4 release when the game is finally launched. Closed beta testers had to content themselves with playing the online game on the weekends, as the servers were usually online between Thursdays and Sundays. This gave the developers a chance to fix bugs and balance the gameplay in between testing phases. All of this will now change, as Orcs Must Die: Unchained is starting its open beta phase today.
As you might know, this means that players do not require a key anymore to download and play the multiplayer game. Anyone interested in the tower defense game can simply sign up an account and delve into the action without an invitation. In order to prepare for the open beta, the servers had to stay offline last weekend. This was partially due to the final wiping of the servers to make sure that all players start afresh today. Testers will get honored for their participation in the closed beta, as all in-game gold purchases that were made during the beta will be honored and adjusted to the new open beta rates.
Orcs Must Die: Unchained is available for free.
