… to become free-to-play! The fantasy shooter Forge published by indie studio Dark Vale Games is the next game to change its business model to become free-to-play. In a dev blog the folks behind Forge have explained their motivation behind this major change.
The game, which was officially launched more than 9 months ago, has continually been improved based on the community’s feedback. Developer Dark Vale Games is not finished yet, as the studio is planning on adding a guild feature to the game in the very near future. Releasing an online MMO is never an easy task, especially when the publisher is an independent studio. In order to reach more potential players, Dark Vale Games has decided to make the game free-to-play.
The publisher does not want Forge to turn into a buy-to-win game which is why it is making sure that almost all purchasable items will either be cosmetic or fairly priced. For example, the price for the Kaldrhiti Armor that takes around 800 games to unlock will be more expensive than other more regular items.
