EVE Online

Sure, EVE Online is no World of Warcraft in terms of its player numbers, but the sci-fi sandbox game has had a particularly loyal community for many years. While the Icelandic studio CCP Games is more than happy with their loyal players, they wouldn’t mind further expanding the online game’s community. One major step that could result in exactly that are the upcoming “Alpha Clone” accounts that are coming to EVE Online in November.

In a nutshell, these accounts are basically free-to-play accounts. Starting in November, anyone who is interested in EVE Online can download the open world game for free and play it for as long as they want. Think of it as an improved version of the online game’s current test version, which has allowed players to try out the science-fiction adventure for free for fourteen days. After that, players have had to purchase a subscription to continue playing or, if they were really industrious and successful, they were able to unlock some free playtime in the game.

Thanks to the new Alpha Clone accounts, everything will be more straightforward in EVE Online. Everyone who is not a subscriber will receive an Alpha Clone status. This allows players to explore the entire science-fiction universe and fly some of the most often-used ships into battle, namely Tech 1 frigates, destroyers, and cruisers. Clone accounts also have access to trading, industry, and exploration skills. If players want to truly enjoy the entire scope of the online game and unlock all features and available spaceships, they have to purchase a subscription. Their account will turn into an Omega Clone, and they can explore everything the science-fiction universe has to offer. If they ever decide to quit their subscription, they will be switched back to Alpha Clone.

This is not the only major change that is coming to EVE Online in November. CCP Games has also announced a lot of new content, including the addition of Industrial Arrays. These buildings are erected by players and continue what was introduced with Citadel structures in April. Additionally, there is talks of a new spaceship and some balancing related changes. More details will be available in the next few weeks.
