After crowning Brawlhalla as our Game of the Day and writing a full test on the game, we felt that we also owed it to our readers to help you all prepare for some heated battles against your friends and family.
For those that haven’t heard of Brawlhalla, check out our review of the game to get a better idea of what the game is about. Basically, it’s a free-to-play platform fighting game similar to some old favorites like Super Smash Bros. Read on to get some basic tips to help you on your way to success.
Find a Main
When playing Brawlhalla, there are loads of different characters available to play. It’s really important to feel comfortable using your character. Since each of them feels different, it’s usually a good idea to find one that you like and stick to it. It’s not just the stats that make the heroes different, but also the weapon set that they use. Play a few games against the bots, and see which weapons you prefer. Then find a character that uses those weapons. There is usually at least one hero that uses a combination of each weapon, so there’s a perfect character for everyone.
Use Items Efficiently
Item control in Brawlhalla is something that sounds terrifyingly difficult, but is actually pretty simple when you get used to it. Item control is all about picking up items and throwing them to their maximum potential. Use the throw move as an extra form of offensive or defensive attack if needed, or just throw items away from opponents to deny them of that powerful lance or sword. Throwing an item can be a great way to finish off an enemy, as they are often not expecting to be hit in the face with a sword when trying to return safely to the platform. Also remember that you don’t have to stop to pick up the item, and they can even be caught in mid-air if your reactions are good enough.
Mashing buttons and jumping around is all great fun, but if you want to improve your gameplay then understanding the mechanics of the game is important. The way the point system works is that you get 2 points for scoring a KO and lose 1 point for being knocked out yourself. A good tactic is trying to take down either the leader, to bring their points back in line with yours, or take down the enemies that have red health bars. The red bars mean that they are weak, and are easily knocked out, even by a basic quick attack. Keep an eye on the scores, and you should see yourself winning more games using these tactics.
