BioShock: Bringing the Story of Rapture to iOS

We’ve established this again and again: Mobile devices give publishers an excellent opportunity to bring their established franchises to more potential gamers than ever before. That is part of the reason why many studios have released remakes or mobile ports of their games to iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. Technology has come a long way in the last couple of years, which is why remakes are not only limited to very classic brands (Sonic The Hedgehog or Final Fantasy 6). Take 2K Games’ BioShock for instance. The story-based shooter is now making its way to iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch.

This was the first teaser for the new iOS game.

When BioShock proper came out in 2007, it pretty much set a new standard for first-person shooters with roleplaying elements. The title incorporated story-telling elements in a brand new way completely immersing players into a fictional steampunk world. It is hard to believe that a console game that was programmed using the Unreal Engine 3 could actually be ported to mobile devices. Thanks to Havok - a provider of 3D interactive game development technology - this will apparently be possible according to 2K Games.

The Havok Physics and Havok Animation Studio technology will be used to bring the Story of Rapture to iOS devices. The mobile game is already scheduled to come out later this summer. Unfortunately for all Android players, the app is currently only supposed to come out in the iTunes Store. We here at have not given up hope for a Google Play release as well, however.
We will keep you posted.
