The mother of all mobile games has gotten its first official sequel. Angry Birds 2 brings back the fun!
It’s hard to believe that the first Angry Birds game came out in December 2009. Since then, the mobile gaming industry has come a long way. How many people do you remember playing a game on their phone before 2009? Sure, there were mini-games, but Angry Birds rang in a new era for video games. Handheld gaming had never before reached this many people across so many generations. Nowadays, there are apps for hardcore gamers, for casual gamers, for action fans, and for brainiacs. Rovio never rested on their laurels. One spin-off followed the next, each reinventing the franchise in one way or another. Angry Birds: Star Wars 2 mashed it up with Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, Angry Birds: Go incorporated arcade racing, and Angry Birds: Epic brought RPG gameplay. In total there have been more than fifteen titles in the franchise with a combined total of more than three billion downloads. Despite the success of the spin-offs, there has never been an actual sequel - until now!
The title of the game Angry Birds 2 already states that this will be the first game in the series to not add completely new game mechanics or another franchise to the mix. Angry Birds 2 will simply be a sequel that builds on the original gameplay. Of course, it will include the entire cast of birds – most of which have only been introduced in later spin-offs. You can take Rovio’s theme for this sequel quite literally – Angry Birds 2 will be “bigger, badder, and birdier.” There are more birds, more levels, and more challenges than in the original game.
Angry Birds 2 features several new features that make for a varied game experience. New spells, multi-stage levels, and the Desctruct-O-Meter, which fills up to earn extra birds add some spice to the well-known formula.
Aside from Red, Chuck, and Bomb, the new companion Silver will also be part of the adventure.
Angry Birds 2 is available for free for Android and iOS devices.
