This one surprised me! I’ve repeatedly established in the past that I am a sucker for casual games – the more addictive the better. Agar.io is one of the recent examples for games that I get quite addicted to. However, I had never quite opened up to King.com’s games. Don’t ask me why – it might’ve been the hype, it might’ve been the fact that I got daily invitations to play it on Facebook, it might’ve been the flashiness of their games. When AlphaBetty Saga came out, I first feared a poorly executed version of Scrabble – but boy was I wrong!
Sure, you can define the title as a mash-up between Scrabble and Candy Crush Saga, but it’s done in a highly successful way. What positively surprised me about AlphaBetty Saga is that using your brain is actually at the forefront of the title. This makes the puzzle game quite difficult and challenging in a satisfying way. Every move counts, so wasting it on a “no” or “so” will most likely not get you very far in the end.
Another reason why I chose King.com’s latest title as my Game of the Day is the simple and intuitive gameplay. No time is wasted on a silly plot; the tutorial is nicely intertwined into the actual gameplay; and the presentation is clean, cute, and satisfying.
More than anything else, AlphaBetty Saga is a lot of fun! There is no reason why it wouldn’t be my Game of the Day.
